The Vahinis

The Writer

Welcome at the site of Sathya Sai Baba's Vahinis. Here one will find the socalled Vahinis - the divine 'Streams' which Bhagavân wrote Himself (fifteen in total) to support His Mission and Task and to help His devotees to re-found and re-spread the everlasting message of Sathya (truth), Dharma (religious principles), Prema (love), and Ânanda (supreme bliss). These writings are Swami's streams of thought on a range of subjects: meditation, right action, wisdom, peace, divine love and Hindu scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gîtâ, the Upanishads and the story of Lord Râma and Lord Krishna. The Vahinis originally appeared in the âs'ram's monthly magazine Sanathana Sarathi.

Sathyanarayana Raju, was born on November 23, 1926 in a small remote village called Puttaparthi in the South of India, approx. 160 km north of Bangalore (state of Andhra Pradesh). His grandfather was S'rî Ratnakaram Kondama Raju who dedicated a temple to Satyabhama, a consort of Lord Krishna. His parents were Pedda Venkapa Raju and Easwaramma. Sathya Sai Baba has now His âs'ram in the village where He was born, named Prasanthi Nilayam, meaning: Place of Supreme Peace. A second âs'ram is located in Whitefield, called Brindavan, where Sai Baba regularly stays.

Biography

The representative of Vishnu on earth is named the Fortunate One in this book. We know Him specifically by the names of Lord Râma and Lord Krishna. The Fortunate One is thus the Lord who is known in different forms or incarnations, but also the devotees are part of His reality and are also called bhâgavata when they are pure. Thus there is the Lord in His many appearances, the devotee with as many faces and the book. They are all called Fortunate. Fortunate means to be of the opulence, or to carry, or live by, the fulness of God of the riches, beauty, fame, power, knowledge and detachment.

Narayana Kasturi (1897-1987) has been Baba's biographer for many decades. Besides he has also been the translator for Baba's discourses and writings, editor of 'Sanathana Sarathi' (eternal charioteer) and an elderly devotee at Prasanthi Nilayam (Baba's âs'ram in Puttaparthi - India). He is the author of 'Sathyam Sivam Sundaram' - 'Truth, Happiness, Harmony' - The biography of Bhagavân S'rî Sathya Sai Baba. Vahini.org offers this four-volume book (decorated with images, illustrating the stories) for reading on-line and as downloads. A short lifestory about Kasturi and his service to Bhagavân is offered as well at this site. There is a separate photo-gallery where the photos and pictures can be viewed, used to illumine the chapters in SSS.
